Pierpont Morgan, a financier who lived from 1837 to 1913 in the United States, established this library as his private art collection. An iconic building from the American Age of Elegance, the Italian Renaissance-style library was built right next to Morgan’s home as a palazzo with three rooms. After Morgan’s death, his son converted the library into a public museum, which has since expanded to include multiple buildings in the heart of New York City.
