McCormick Ranch is an interesting area of Scottsdale, which has become one of the largest planned communities in Arizona. In 1921, the area was owned by the Jolly family. They built a ranch and home on 160 acres, now the site of the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park on the corner of Scottsdale and Indian Bend Roads. In 1942, the land was acquired by Fowler and Anne McCormick, and for the next 12 years the couple developed their ranch, expanding it by buying adjoining parcels of land. McCormick Ranch now covers an area of approximately five square miles and includes beautiful golf courses, parks, sports grounds, tennis courts, 25 miles of recreational trails, and seven man-made lakes. The main streets are lined with high-end shops, boutiques and businesses along with the Scottsdale Pavilions outdoor shopping center.
