We Clean. We Care. We Welcome.

Safety and Cleanliness Key Hallmarks at Millennium Hotels and Resorts

As we have adjusted to the new normal, and travel is possible again, Millennium Hotels and Resorts is committed to making sure that every stay with us at one of our 130+ hotels across the world is a comfortable and safe stay. By introducing our ‘We Clean. We Care. We Welcome’ Global Safety and Cleanliness Commitment; we ensure that precautionary measures have been introduced to ensure the safety of all our guests and employees.

We bring this commitment to life through the practice of our new 10 Key Hallmarks. Built on existing Millennium Hotels and Resorts safety protocols and designed to complement the exhaustive mandatory preventative measures mandated by local government authorities, these guidelines further enhance the health and safety protections for all our guests and staff.

As part of the introduction of our new My Millennium Magazine, we want to take our readers on a deep dive into these Key Hallmarks, explore how we execute them, and the experience of travelling with us in the new normal.

Introduction of Hygiene Ambassadors roles to ensure hygiene and safety measures are implemented

For our second feature we interviewed one of our new Hygiene Ambassadors, Michael Vincent who is the new Cluster Hygiene Manager for our Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Copthorne King's, M Hotel, Studio M and M Social Singapore hotels. Our hygiene ambassadors are responsible for ensuring that our employees are trained with the latest processes and procedures to enhance guest safety and comfort. We asked Michael about some of the new things he has been working on as part of his new role:

What do you do as the hotel hygiene ambassador?
I work with the management team to ensure the 'Safe Management Measures' are implemented in the hotel and that everyone is adhering to these. I also conduct training and briefing to all employees on safety measures that needs to be carried out while on duty. I also ensure frequently touched areas such as handrails, lift buttons, door knobs/handles, digital displays, touch screen panels and tables and chairs in the rooms and common areas are disinfected regularly as well as ensuring there is adequate supplies of disinfectant, face mask, hand gloves and hand towels. And finally, reduce physical interaction between staff and ensure safe distancing is in place at all times.

What are your key tasks as a hygiene ambassador?
i.    Work closely with the necessary regulatory bodies to update latest advisory and ensure information is cascaded to the relevant teams.
ii.  Require personal protective equipment & observe good personal hygiene of all staff
iii.  Reduce physical interaction between staff and guests, and ensure safe distancing is in place at all times
iv.   Implement health checks and protocols to manage potential cases
v.  Ensure cleanliness of workplace.
vi. Support in contact tracing.

Have you learnt anything new by becoming the hygiene ambassador?
I learned about handling PUQ's (person under quarantine) and how to actively monitor development of a virus outbreak, and how to work with my team to manage a potential outbreak.

Do you feel reassured about staying in a hotel now that you assure others of the hygiene standards?
Yes, Definitely. I am assured as I know we have a system in place in handling the COVID-19 Pandemic. I am also aware that the cleaning and disinfecting of the guest rooms and public areas is carried out frequently as advised. We also have a team of safe management officers in the hotel, who is going around to ensure all hygiene and cleaning practices are carried out

Any recommendations for guests who may be travelling in 2020?
Biggest one: if you are feeling unwell, do not travel. Consult a doctor immediately. Also, check your relevant government website for latest travel advisories and fill in any travel declaration forms ahead of time if possible. And finally, make sure to book any accommodation or other activities directly with the providers so that you have a direct contact in case you need flexibility, cancellation or travel plans change.

Can you share any tips to stay safe while outside the hotel?
Wash your hands regularly for at least 30 seconds or use hand sanitizers to prevent contamination. Use a face mask at all times and avoid touching frequently touched areas. You can use tissue or any protection items to prevent cross-contamination.

As international isn't possible right now, where would you like to go first once all travel restrictions are lifted?
The United Kingdom in Europe, my dream is to go to London Emirates Stadium as I am a great fan of Arsenal Football Club. It’s a lifetime dream to be in the stadium to watch Arsenal play.
