Larnach Castle was built in 1871 by William Larnach, a banker, merchant baron and minister of the Crown. Self-guided tours around New Zealand’s only inhabited castle offer insight into Victorian life for the privileged and wealthy as visitors learn about Mr Larnach’s three wives and six children. Still privately owned by the Barker family, this award-winning castle is set in a Garden of International Significance and enjoys spectacular tower views.
