The Biltmore Los Angeles has played host to a golden-era prohibition nightclub and numerous Academy Awards, capable of entertaining a galaxy of stars, dignitaries and presidents from around the world.
A few notable events –

  • The Presidential Suite has hosted six U.S. presidents, members of royalty and notorious gangsters like Al Capone. The suite still has a recessed spot where liquor was hidden during prohibition.
  • During prohibition, the Gold Room also acted as a speakeasy –complete with hidden door to help revelers avoid police and paparazzi –with an escape onto Olive Street.
  • The Italian artist Giovanni Smeraldi painted the frescoes and murals inside the Biltmore. He was also requested to paint inside the White House and Vatican Museums.
  • The lobby was the spot of J.F. Kennedy’s presidential nomination during the 1960 DNC.
