The Millennium & Copthorne Pension Plan (the “Plan”) is a UK trust-based hybrid pension scheme that is comprised of defined benefit (“DB”) and defined contribution (“DC”) sections. For the DB, or final salary, section of the Plan, pension funds are pooled and invested with the aim of meeting the Plan’s future pension payments. Some members have an underpin to part of their final salary benefits, where that element of pension is subject to a minimum of that provided at the member’s retirement from a pot of money allocated to the member under the Plan. For members in the DC section, or the contracted-out money purchase section, of the Plan, their pension comes from pots of money held in their names, and there is a minimum pension that must be provided from them.
